More Digger Activity at the Lake Zone – What Are They Looking For?
It’s been another intriguing week of activity at the Lake Zone, with diggers once again moving in and leaving behind a curious pattern of freshly excavated holes scattered across the field.
Unlike previous works, these don’t appear to follow a single trench or clear layout. Instead, the holes seem almost random in their placement, raising questions about exactly what the crews are investigating beneath the surface.
One possibility is that this activity is connected to the long-rumoured dual carriageway route, which is expected to run from Manor Road up towards Ampthill Road. If that plan is moving forward, the works we’re seeing could represent early-stage ground investigations to assess soil conditions, drainage, or underground services along the proposed alignment.
At this stage, however, it’s hard to draw firm conclusions. What is clear is that this looks very much like trial pitting — a common technique used to “probe” the ground in multiple locations when engineers are searching for something specific, whether that’s utilities, ground stability issues, or environmental constraints.
For now, the Lake Zone continues to keep its secrets. We’ll be watching closely to see whether these exploratory digs develop into something more structured, or if further clues emerge in the coming weeks.
As always, if you spot any changes or have additional information, feel free to get in touch — every detail helps build the bigger picture.
