Legal Information
This page sets out the main legal information for Project Universal, including how the website, community features, and Accommodation Hub are used and the approach taken to drone filming, photography, and related aerial content.
General Information
Information published on this platform is provided in good faith for general informational purposes only. Project Universal makes reasonable efforts to keep information accurate and up to date, although some news, listing, or support content may occasionally become out of date or need correction.
Accommodation Hub and User Content
The Accommodation Hub may include listing content, descriptions, pricing information, images, availability references, and other user-submitted material provided by property owners or account holders. Project Universal may review, moderate, or remove content where needed for legal compliance, safety, fraud prevention, or platform standards, but it does not guarantee the completeness or accuracy of every third-party submission.
Drone Operations and Compliance
Where Project Universal carries out drone operations, flights are intended to be planned and conducted lawfully, safely, and responsibly in line with the applicable United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority framework in force at the time of flight.
This includes following the UK Drone and Model Aircraft Code, operating within the relevant Open Category rules where applicable, maintaining Visual Line of Sight, not exceeding the applicable legal height limits, and complying with any airspace, location, or operational restrictions affecting the flight.
Where required by law for the aircraft and operation involved, Project Universal intends to ensure that the appropriate Flyer ID, Operator ID, aircraft labelling, and commercial drone insurance arrangements are in place before flight.
Journalistic and Public Interest Content
Project Universal may sometimes publish updates, commentary, filming, photography, and other material relating to matters of public interest, including construction, development, infrastructure, public-facing projects, and related events. In some cases, this may involve considering whether the UK data protection framework for journalism or other special purposes is relevant.
Current ICO guidance makes clear that this is not a blanket exemption and does not apply automatically. Whether it is relevant depends on the circumstances, including the nature of the material, whether it is being prepared with a view to publication, whether there is a reasonable public interest in publication, and whether relying on the exemption is genuinely necessary in the particular case.
ICO guidance also indicates that the position is based more on the purpose of the processing than on formal press status alone. The legal test still needs to be considered carefully in light of the particular facts.
No Professional Advice
Nothing on this website should be taken as legal, financial, engineering, regulatory, or other professional advice. If you need to rely on information for a specific decision, it is sensible to obtain advice relevant to your own circumstances.
Flight Limitations and Operational Judgement
Even where a flight is being considered for filming or photography, there may be times when it is better to delay, adjust, relocate, or cancel the operation. This can depend on weather conditions, public presence, technical concerns, airspace issues, land access, wildlife activity, privacy considerations, or other safety and legal factors.
Aviation compliance is only one part of lawful operation. Drone activity may also require consideration of landowner permission, privacy expectations, data protection, nuisance, local site policies, and any restrictions imposed by public authorities or site managers.
External Links
This platform may include links to third-party websites or platforms, including social media services, payment services, maps, and external listing-related tools. Those sites operate under their own terms and privacy policies, and their content and availability are outside Project Universal's control.
Liability
Project Universal does not accept responsibility for loss arising solely from reliance on general website content, third-party services, or occasional site interruptions, except where the law does not allow liability to be limited or excluded.
Where drone filming, photography, or related services are carried out, no statement on this website should be read as a guarantee that every requested flight, location, shot, or output will be possible in every circumstance.
Updates
Project Universal may update this page from time to time to reflect changes to the website, linked services, or legal requirements.
This area of law and regulation may change. The ICO has stated that parts of its exemptions guidance are under review following legal changes that came into force on 19 June 2025, so this page may be updated from time to time.
