Broadmead Road set for major changes as early enabling works start for Universal UK resort

Highway improvements, two new site access points and a road realignment will require closures, temporary signals and bus diversions over several weeks.

Early enabling works for the Universal Destinations & Experiences UK project will begin on Broadmead Road, introducing significant highway changes around the Universal site in Bedford.

The programme focuses on highway improvements around the railway level crossing, creation of two new access points into the site serving the West Gateway and the Core Zone, plus a realignment of Broadmead Road between Woburn Road and the Core Zone access to establish future traffic flow into the resort.

Planned traffic arrangements include a full closure of Broadmead Road between the Woburn Road junction and the Hansons Reach roundabout from April 20 to May 22, with temporary traffic lights at the Woburn Road junction and diversions routed via Green Lane, which will include the 68 bus.

Woburn Road will be fully closed from May 15 at 8pm until May 18 at 5am, and a temporary 30mph speed limit will apply along Broadmead Road for the duration of the works.

The works cover the full length of Broadmead Road under a permit issued by Bedford Borough Council, and are described as preparatory infrastructure to enable how traffic will eventually flow in and out of the future resort.
