How we chose the date
Project Universal’s comparison of opening dates across Universal theme parks suggests a recurring strategy: launch on a Thursday or Friday immediately before a major holiday period. That timing creates strong media coverage while giving the park a more controlled first operating weekend.
Thursday 22 May 2031 falls just before the late-May Spring Bank Holiday and is likely to overlap with school half-term schedules across parts of the UK. It also falls exactly six years after Epic Universe officially opened on Thursday 22 May 2025.
The 10:00am target represents a plausible opening ceremony time. A public opening around 11:00am would leave space for speeches, media coverage and a ceremonial ribbon cutting before guests enter the park.
