Bedford Borough Council has now extended the Broadmead Road closure until 17th July, with the works continuing to support the construction of the Universal United Kingdom Resort, including the new access roads and highway improvements.
I don't think this extension will come as a huge surprise. Large infrastructure projects like this often uncover unexpected issues once work gets underway, and we've already seen previous extensions due to things like unmapped utilities.
That said, it's understandably frustrating, especially for the residents of Stewartby and anyone who regularly uses Broadmead Road. Every extension means more disruption, longer diversions and a bit more inconvenience for local people.
Unfortunately, these improvements are a necessary part of preparing the area for what will become one of the UK's biggest construction projects. While it's disappointing to see the finish line move again, hopefully this extension will allow the work to be completed properly and keep the project moving forward.
Are you affected by the closure, or have you found a decent alternative route?
Thank you to Wandering Northerner for letting me know.
