We may now be getting our first real glimpse at the permanent shape of the Universal United Kingdom Resort site.
These latest contour plans do not show the finished theme park, and they certainly do not confirm exactly where every ride, path, building or themed area will eventually sit.
What they do show is the proposed permanent engineering landform — the broad hills, valleys, plateaus, slopes and routes that the resort could eventually be built around.
Of course, parts of this could still be altered in the future. Some changes may be minor, while others could be more significant as detailed designs develop and the wider master plan moves forward.
But this is still incredibly exciting, because for the first time we can begin to see the physical canvas Universal is creating. You can start looking between two raised areas and imagining where a road, walkway or attraction route could pass through. You can spot open plateaus, dips in the landscape and areas that appear to have been shaped for a particular purpose.
Think back to the early concept artwork, where roller coasters appeared to weave between large landscaped hills. We cannot say that is definitely what these contours are for — but we can finally begin to see hills and landforms taking shape on the actual plans.
It may only be a very small glimpse, but it is perhaps our clearest glimpse yet at how the resort could physically feel when you are walking through it.
