Virgin has revealed proposed designs for its new high-speed trains, with plans to challenge Eurostar by running services from London St Pancras to Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam from around 2030.

The company is planning 12 new trains and up to 20 return services a day, with a major agreement now in place to maintain them at Eurostar’s London depot.

But here’s an interesting thought: with a brand-new four-platform railway station planned at Wixams to serve Universal United Kingdom Resort, could we eventually see international trains travelling straight through the Channel Tunnel and continuing north to Bedfordshire?

Imagine visitors boarding a train in Paris or Brussels and stepping off at Universal Studios UK without changing trains.

Of course, there are significant railway infrastructure and operational challenges, and there are no announced plans for anything like this.

Universal is due to open in 2031, and with Virgin’s services planned from around 2030, could direct international rail connections become a possibility in the future?

Would you like to see direct trains from mainland Europe to Universal Studios UK?
