Universal UK could “supercharge” the economy beyond Bedfordshire

It’s not just Bedfordshire preparing for the impact of Universal United Kingdom Resort — neighbouring Northamptonshire is now looking at how it can make the most of what’s coming too.

West Northamptonshire Council has backed efforts to ensure the county benefits from the huge number of jobs, visitors and wider economic activity expected to be generated by the resort.

Richard Clinton, chair of the Northamptonshire Local Visitor Economy Partnership, described the potential numbers as “quite eye watering”, predicting a ripple effect across hospitality, engineering, tourism and other industries.

And there’s a familiar face in the BBC article too!

Our good friend Lawrence O’Shea from Universally Bedford spoke about the “amazing opportunities” Universal could create for businesses and young people, while also making an important point — councils across Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire need to make sure they maximise the opportunity from the very beginning.

I think this is something we’re going to hear a LOT more about as we get closer to 2031.

Universal might be building the resort in Bedfordshire, but the economic impact could spread much further across the region.
