A tiny detail hidden away in a newly published planning document could be one of the most exciting clues we've seen in a while...
Released today (6 August), the latest Flood Resilience Scheme for Universal United Kingdom Resort mostly focuses on drainage, flood protection and engineering. But tucked away on one of the drawings is something that immediately caught my eye...
"2C – Park Show Lagoon."
Even more interesting, the document specifically states that the Show Lagoon is not part of the site's surface water management.
Why does that matter?
Because it tells us this isn't just a pond or a drainage basin. It's a purpose-built feature, completely separate from the flood resilience system. That strongly suggests it's there for entertainment rather than engineering.
Could this become the heart of the park? A place for fountains, projections, fireworks or nighttime spectaculars? We simply don't know yet, but it's another exciting piece of the puzzle that adds weight to the idea of a dedicated show lagoon sitting within the Core Zone.
The rest of the document is still fascinating in its own right. It explains how watercourses will be diverted around the edge of the Core Zone, how wetlands and drainage basins will manage rainfall, and how the wider site has been designed to cope with extreme weather for decades to come.
It's amazing how some of the biggest talking points can be hidden away in hundreds of pages of engineering documents!
