A fair bit of tree clearance has now taken place at the far end of the Core Zone, alongside the old railway track bed. If you look down the left-hand side of these photos, you can clearly see the long, straight route where the railway once ran through the site.
I'll admit, it's never nice to see established trees being cleared. If this was another warehouse development, I'd probably be feeling very differently.
But this is one of those occasions where I'm looking at the bigger picture. Universal is expected to invest tens of millions of pounds into landscaping the resort, with thousands of new trees, shrubs and green spaces transforming what has been an industrial site for decades into a world-class destination. Sometimes that means clearing areas first before they can create something completely new.
It's still a little sad to see this part of the site's history disappear, but I'm prepared to bite my tongue and trust the process. It'll certainly be fascinating to compare these photos with the same location a few years from now.
