There’s been noticeable change at the Wixams end of Manor Road in Kempston Hardwick, the road that runs between the Core Zone and Lake Zone at the Universal United Kingdom Resort construction site.

Photographs show the former Vine Cottages have now been completely demolished, with work underway to widen the road and significantly open up the corner. This should make it much easier for large construction vehicles and HGVs to navigate this section of Manor Road.

Elsewhere in the images there is activity in the area where the future dual carriageway is planned. If you look closely near the blue water bowser, you can just make out the green framework of what appears to be a ground investigation or drilling rig.

At the Wixams end of Manor Road a new traffic island has been installed, alongside improvements to the pedestrian crossing points, including dropped kerbs and tactile paving.

Moving along Manor Road towards the lake, there has also been quite a bit of ecological preparation taking place. Along the track between Manor Road and the lake a considerable amount of temporary reptile and amphibian exclusion fencing has now been installed. This is the small black, tarpaulin-style fencing you often see around construction sites, designed to help protect wildlife such as newts, frogs, toads and reptiles.

The area has been divided into several sections using this fencing, which can help prevent wildlife from entering construction areas and allow ecologists to safely capture and relocate protected species where required. We can’t say for certain which species are being targeted here, but it’s interesting to see just how much of this fencing has gone in, suggesting preparations are being made for further work in this area.

It’s notable how quickly the landscape is changing around Manor Road, and these photographs provide another clear look at the amount of work taking place beyond the main construction zones.
